life through a lens
Ela Kır is a Turkish-British documentary filmmaker whose work is rooted in empathy, observation, and human connection. Through an intimate and authentic approach to documentary storytelling, she focuses on people and communities whose voices are often overlooked, creating films that bring unseen stories to light and give space to those rarely heard.
Her films have screened internationally and received multiple awards, including Best International Documentary at the Mojo Italia Film Festival for A Little Bit Like Calm, and Best Documentary at the Prodigy Film Festival for Seriously, 2020…. Her latest film, Roots of Love, is currently beginning its international festival run.
Ela’s work blends observational documentary with a deeply personal sensibility, prioritising trust, presence, and emotional honesty in front of the camera. Alongside her independent documentary practice, she works across commercial, branded, and socially driven projects.
She is currently completing an MFA in Directing Documentary at the prestigious National Film and Television School (NFTS).
